Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)

Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is a minimally invasive sperm retrieval technique used for men with obstructive or non-obstructive azoospermia. This procedure involves aspirating sperm directly from the testicular tissue, making it a valuable option for men who cannot produce sperm in their ejaculate.

Who Needs TESA?

Men diagnosed with azoospermia (no sperm in the ejaculate)
Patients with obstructive azoospermia due to vasectomy, infections, or congenital absence of the vas deferens
Individuals with non-obstructive azoospermia, where sperm production is impaired
Men who are unable to ejaculate naturally due to spinal cord injuries or other medical conditions
Patients undergoing ICSI treatment for severe male infertility

The TESA Procedure

Step 1: Preparation

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia or mild sedation.
A small needle is inserted into the testicle to extract sperm-containing tissue.

Step 2: Sperm Retrieval

The aspirated tissue is processed in a laboratory to isolate viable sperm.
If live sperm is found, it can be used immediately for ICSI or IVF, or frozen for future use.
