Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is an advanced form of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) where a single, healthy sperm is directly injected into an egg to facilitate fertilization. This technique is especially beneficial for couples dealing with severe male factor infertility. At DYU Advanced Fertility & Smart IVF Center, we offer state-of-the-art ICSI treatments to maximize the chances of successful fertilization and pregnancy.
What is ICSI?
Unlike traditional IVF, where eggs and sperm are mixed together for fertilization, ICSI is a highly controlled technique that requires only one high-quality sperm and one egg. This method is particularly useful for cases with low sperm count, poor sperm motility, or previous IVF failures.
Who Needs ICSI?
ICSI is recommended for individuals and couples experiencing:
- Severe male factor infertility (low sperm count, poor motility, or abnormal sperm morphology)
- Previous IVF failure due to poor fertilization
- Azoospermia (absence of sperm in semen, requiring sperm retrieval procedures like TESA/TESE)
- Use of frozen sperm with reduced motility
- Unexplained infertility
- Need for Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) to screen for genetic abnormalities
The ICSI Process
Step 1: Preparation for an ICSI Cycle
For the Female Partner:
- Fertility medications stimulate the ovaries to develop multiple eggs.
- Once mature eggs are detected via ultrasound, they are retrieved surgically and placed in an incubator.
For the Male Partner:
- A semen sample is collected via masturbation or surgical retrieval (if necessary).
- High-quality sperm is isolated and prepared for injection.
Step 2: Sperm Injection (ICSI Procedure)
- A single, morphologically normal sperm is injected into a mature egg using a fine glass needle.
- This step ensures fertilization, even in cases of severe male infertility.

Step 3: Embryo Culture & Monitoring
- Fertilized eggs (embryos) are cultured in a specialized lab for 3-5 days.
- The strongest embryos are selected for transfer.
Step 4: Embryo Transfer
- A selected embryo is transferred into the uterus using a thin catheter.
- The procedure is quick, painless, and requires no anesthesia.
Step 5: Pregnancy Test & Follow-Up
- A blood test (Beta hCG) is performed 10-14 days post-transfer to confirm pregnancy.
- Additional support is provided for early pregnancy monitoring.
ICSI Success Rates
The success rate of ICSI depends on various factors, including the quality of eggs, sperm, and embryo development. On average:
- 60-70% fertilization rate per egg injected
- 40-50% clinical pregnancy rate per embryo transfer for women under 35
- 30-40% pregnancy rate for women aged 35-40
- 20-30% pregnancy rate for women over 40
- Higher success rates when combined with Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
Why Choose ICSI Over Traditional IVF?
- Higher fertilization success rates in severe male infertility cases
- Requires only one healthy sperm per egg, making it economical in terms of genetic material
- Increases chances of fertilization when sperm motility or morphology is poor
- Used with IVF/ICSI split techniques to maximize fertilization potential
Robo ICSI
The award-winning RoboICSI technology helps the embryologist during IVF to improve the results, assisting infertile couples in having a child. RoboICSI, a patent-pending product based on an innovative design methodology, will aid in bridging the supply and demand gaps in the rapidly expanding infertile market. It will be a Made in India product that will lead the way by introducing a number of features to the world.
It is a sophisticated equipment that makes it easier for the embryologist to execute ICSI. The holding pipette used in the traditional ICSI is replaced by RoboICSI.
Benefits of Robo ICSI
New methods of manipulation
In contrast to the conventional micro-pipette aspiration-based immobilisation, RoboICSI® provides a revolutionary method for capturing cells utilising biocompatible material, which has several advantages.
Gentle cell handling
Even if the embryologist makes a mistake, RoboICSIclever ®’s passive force-limiting technology ensures that the oocyte is not harmed.
Simple and speedy installation
The devices now employed in ICSI workbenches were taken into consideration throughout the design and development of RoboICSI®. The plug-and-play technology of RoboICSI® enables the user to rapidly connect the system, carry out the auto-calibration, and get going in approximately a day.
Seamless integration and simple onboarding
Because RoboICSI® is simple to use, clinics may quickly integrate it into their workflow.
- It removes subjectivity while working with oocytes, carries out recurring chores and lessens tiredness.
- Enhances the embryologists’ abilities and potential
- Helps IVF clinics handle higher volume
